Default Newly qualified class of 2008!

Hi, I was just wondering how many of our members are newly qualified/about to qualify? I have certainly noticed a few on here. Would be really interested to hear more from you all, you never know, perhaps the class of 2008 can support each other here for years to come!
So, looking back, is midwifery what you thought it would be 3 years ago?
Was your uni course what you thought it would be/what they promised it would be?
If you knew then what you know now...what would be your advice to anyone thinking of applying to train as a midwife?
How is the job situation in your part of the country?
How are your job applications and interviews going?
Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Alf hun, you are sooo nosey! hahaha.

I qualified on July 30th this year. I have sent in my job application, but as yet have head nothing back . We were told that the trust where I trained had no job vacancies, but that there should be a 6 month preceptorship for us. This is what we are applying for.

The course was very much as I had imagined it would be, although the amount of needed time researching for assignments was a great deal more than I thought. Having seen a few girls marriages and partnerships disintigrate during the course, due to the levels of stress, I would advise those applying to make sure that their families are really supportive of them, otherwise they may find it knocks their relationships too far.

The emphasis of the course was definitely that we were adult learners and that it was up to us to research sufficiantly to understand what was being skimmed over in seminars. I found this took time to sink in fully as I had expected it to be like school - just harder!

Despite several personal crisis and the usual pressures around assignments, I throughly enjoyed the course and would say to anyone that if you have a burning desire to be a midwife - go for it!

I hope now, I find work and can put into practice what I have spent the last 3 years learning.

Congratulations KS on making it! I hope you get a post soon, last year, the jobs situation in our area was dire for newly qualified but this year it seems better all around. Let's hope the Government millions make it in your direction after all the sacrifice and dedication.
