Default The Great SMNET Auction & Raffle for Baby Honey

As the sister site to StudentMidwife.NET, I hope you will help us make the auction and raffle a success. The reason why we are holding this auction and raffle is best described by Tasha, a member of SMNET...

"On the 14th May 2007 I was 36 weeks and 4 days into my pregnancy and just three days into my pregnancy, just three days away from induction, myself and my husband were relieved to be at the end of a complicated pregnancy and excited to be finally meeting our precious bundle. Sadly that was the day our daughter took her final kicks. The next day I heard those words no mother ever wants to her, 'Natasha... I am so sorry'. We went home to prepare ourselves for the delivery of our child, returning the next day. On the 16th May 2007 after a short labour of just 1 hour 12 minutes our daughter was born silently into the world. She was perfect in every way. We decided to call her Honey, I tried to take in every single detail of our little girl, the size of her hands, the shape of her nose, how she felt in my arms. I was trying to fit a life time of memories in to a few hours. After three sad but wonderful hours we had to say goodbye as Honey's skin was too fragile. I gave Honey one last kiss, told her I would love her forever, and smelt her one last time. My heart broke into a million pieces as the midwife took Honey away.

The reason I am trying to raise funds for this bereavement room at the West Middlesex hospital is because I know what a difference it can make to the families that have to say their goodbyes in a hospital room. When you loose your child wether it is a stillbirth or neonatal death you loose everything that could have been. You have a few short hours to create a lifetime of memories and this private room will help to make those memories just a little bit more special and, a tragic and devestating time that little bit gentler.

Thankyou for your support, Tasha"

This means so much to Tasha and to us and we would like to invite you all to take part in an event that will help make a difference. The unit has a room but no funds to furnish it etc - thats where we come in... working with West London Sands and Tasha to help them get what they need.

To raise money for Honey's room Tasha has been working tirelessly from running a 10km run barely 8 weeks after her LSCS! to organising fetes and events.

If you would like to take part in the auction/raffle then here's the plan....

Donations of prizes/auction items

Those of you who would like to donate items to raffle/auction please contact billynomates (that was Edith she seems to be worrying about not knwoing many ppl before she starts!) who will take all the details and begin compiling a list of goodies. Please send a brief description of the item and a picture to Billy at staff@studentmidwife.net

Those donating will send the prizes directly to the winners - so keep in mind how heavy your donations are!

We will need list of items to be donated as soon as possible to tempt you all to buy raffle tickets and pitch up for the auction! but will keep adding to the list as we go!

The list of items donated so far is below.

The Auction

The auction will start at 7pm on Thursday 11th September on SMNET - the raffle winners will also be announced throughout the evening! All we need now is a cyber hat to jiggle cyber tickets about in! In the absence of cyber jiggling Rob has arranged a data program to randomly select numbers so it will be a bit Star Trek with the computer deciding the raffle winners!

Sale of raffle tickets

Raffle tickets will be on sale from Monday. We will post up details of how to pay Tasha for your raffle tickets then (she will be accepting paypal, bank transfers and cheques paid direct to West London Sands). Details to follow.

However for now have a root about at home and see what you have that you would like to donate - lets get that list of goodies going!! Billynomates has already started compiling a list from the staff's donations, all will be revealed in this thread soon! You can donate anything midwifery related or not....

Thanks to you all in advance as I know many of you will want to contribute and help Tasha to achieve this for her daughter, Honey.
